pink fish blue fish

Sew of course!

It’s cold and wet here this morning, so after I dropped the kids off at kindy & school I came home, turned up the radio, and got sewing! I’ve been working on a boys shorts pattern, and I think I’ve got a good fit/style now. I’m still thinking I’ll add a cargo pocket to one leg, boys need pockets you know! (excuse the less than average photos, I’ll add modelled photos when the kids are home!)

Then I made this super easy skirt for pinkfish. The fabric is from retromummy and is so sweet! The ballerinas run down both selvedges, so I just cut it through the middle, sewed up the side seams and added an elastic waist. Told you it was easy! Just so you know, pinkfish wears a size 7, and this skirt only used 1/2 metre of fabric (and it’s long skirt on her).

Look what came from our garden today! We haven’t had much in the way of home grown veges lately as everything got fried in the summer heat. Well, I lie, the silverbeet just keeps growing and growing, but how much silverbeet can we eat?! The chooks have got most of it lately 🙂

Now what can I make for dinner with eggs, pumpkin, chillis, peppers, tomatoes and one lonely little zuchinni? I think I better look in the freezer!

Yippee! I am sooo excited to be going to what is likely Australia’s first ever crafty bloggers weekend!

Sheridan is the awesome crafty chick who is organising the whole thing. That’s right, a whole weekend for crafting, eating and a lot of talking! And she’s doing it all in her own time and is not being paid a cent! Talk about committed to the cause 🙂

So a big round of applause to Sheridan, and also to my wonderful husband who agreed this would make the best ever birthday present for me 🙂

You can find out more about it all here.

Can you tell I’m excited? 🙂

This is going to be a great year, I can feel it in my bones, and my Nana would say!

I don’t know what triggered the sudden bout of glee and excitement about the new year. Maybe it’s the fact that pink fish will be at school, and blue fish will be at kindy 3 days a week, so for the first time in 6 years I’ll have time to myself. I’m hoping I’ll get to acheive a few more things for me, be a bit more selfish, but also learn to spend more quality time with the kids seeing as there will be less ‘quantity’ time with them.

I’m looking forward to finding out more of who I really am. There’s a confident, cheery, chatty, crafty girl inside who occasionally pops her head out, but I’d like to see that girl more often.

One thing I know will help her emerge is to finally shift the weight I need to lose for good. I’d love to say my motivation lies in wanting to improve my health, but if I’m honest, I’m more motivated by wanting to buy clothes I like and feel good wearing them. To not be the fat mum dropping her kids off at school. To feel proud on my husbands arm when we walk down the street. To set a good example to my kids, especially pink fish, about healthy living and self esteem. All pretty darn good reasons to get rid of the weight!

This year I want to get more involved in blogland. Some of the nicest, happiest, most motivating people I ‘know’ are from sewing forums and blogs. It’s such a supportive little community and I want to be more involved, leave more comments on peoples blogs, and do more swaps and challenges.

Which ties in with my next point, I want to hang around more with happy people, who make me feel worthwhile, and less with the ‘friends’ who really only call when they want something.

And I want to create more! I want to sew, sew, sew! I want to learn new crafts too. Felting, crochet, knitting, toy making, fabric dyeing, pattern drafting, I figure I may as well try it, no harm done if it’s not for me.

So now you can see why this is going to be a good year for me! I’ll make sure I keep you updated on how I’m acheiving my goals, and where I’m falling short of the mark. It might be a roller coaster of a year but I’m up for the ride 🙂

Oh, and so you know, this is me. It’s one of those strangely flattering self potraits, I usually have an extra chin! But there’s no point putting up an unflattering photo is there?!

I can’t believe how long it’s been since I blogged, or how short a time I actually blogged for!

But I’m back! And ready to have a second crack at blogging. I don’t know why blogging didn’t work for me last year. I love, love, love  following so many of the awesome crafty blogs out there, and am on the net everyday seeing what everyone else has been sewing and creating. I guess in some way I figured nobody would really be interested in reading about what I’m up to, it’s not like I have a really exciting life! But hey, if you don’t want to read about it, then don’t read my blog 🙂

You’ll be happy to hear I’ve still been sewing, and I’ll put a photo at the end of this post of my most recent creation, a dress in gorgeous Patty Young fabric just to prove it! It’s amazing what a gorgeous fabric does to a simple dress drafted from rectangles.

I also have a new sewing room, which you’ll see more of later (once I’ve finished sewing library and chair bags and cleaned it up a little)!

And there are more exciting things instore for 2010, I can just feel this year is going to be my year!

Until next time… and yes there will be a next time!

Yipee! It’s here! I came straight home after dropping pink fish at school, and decided blue fish and I were staying put until Australia Post showed up! After looking out the front window about 1000 times, I finally saw the white van! So I raced outside, met the Aussie Post chick at her van (bet that doesn’t happen much!) and got blue fish out of bed so we could open it together (he wasn’t asleep yet and was very happy to be out of his bed!)

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou Romijade! She has sewn blue fish a gorgeous reversible cord and fleece scoodie (hood and scarf in one), fabulously detailed overalls (check out all the topstitching!) and printed a ‘cool’ (in blue fish’s words!) lion on a long sleeved shirt. How spoilt are we?! Thankyou so much Romijade, you really have done a fantastic job and we love all of it!

Now to some photos….

ETA: The outfit I made has been received! Check out Susans blog to see her little boy wearing the clothes I made him.

It’s finally finished and on it’s way to it’s new owner! I’ve loved doing this clothing swap, and hope my partner likes the clothes I’ve made for her little boy 🙂clothing-swap-sneak-peek
